One very old tree.

The resort

Everything is under one long roof

The gaming floor, the theater, five kitchens and the hot spring all sit within a four-minute walk of your door. The tree is in the middle of it. We designed around it, not the other way round.

Rooms

Sleep in the canopy

Every room faces either the ridge or the courtyard oak. Blackout curtains in all of them, because half our guests go to bed at 6am.

Good to know

Home / Casino

The Grove

Forty thousand square feet, open every hour of the year. Low ceilings on purpose — it should feel like a room, not an airport. You must be 21 or older to be on the gaming floor.

Table limits

What's open, and what it costs to sit down

Limits move with the crowd. Weeknights before 6pm are the cheapest seats in the house.

GameTablesHoursMinimum

The Hollow, our high-limit room, sits behind the brass doors past the poker desk. Ask any host for access.

New to it

Free lessons, every afternoon

If you've never played a table game, come to the pit at 2pm any day of the week. A dealer will walk you through blackjack, craps and roulette with chips that aren't worth anything. It takes about forty minutes and there's coffee.

Play within your means

House rules we actually mean

Set a budget before you sit down and treat it as the cost of the evening, not an investment. The odds favor the house on every game on this floor — that's how the lights stay on.

We'll help you set deposit limits, take a break, or self-exclude at any time. Talk to a host, or call the National Problem Gambling Helpline at 1-800-522-4700, free and confidential, 24 hours.

Five kitchens

One of them never closes. Reserve a table below and we'll hold it for fifteen minutes past your time.

Home / Shows

The Ring Theater

Twelve hundred seats, no seat further than ninety feet from the stage. Doors an hour before, and the bar stays open until the last person leaves.

Meetings

Four rooms from 20 to 400 people, all with daylight and their own coffee station. We do the catering in-house.

Weddings

Ceremonies under the oak, receptions in the Canopy Ballroom. One wedding a day, so the property is yours.

Group rooms

Ten rooms or more gets you a group rate and a dedicated host. Email groups@oaktree-hotelcasino.website.

The Acorn Club

Free to join, and it starts paying at your second visit. Tiers are earned on nights stayed and money spent on rooms, food and tickets — not on how much you play.

About the place

Family-run since 1974, and still the largest employer in Millbrook Hollow.

The short version

Ray and Estelle Vance bought forty acres off Route 9 in 1971 with the idea of building a supper club. The county granted a gaming license three years later, and the Oaktree opened with sixty rooms, four tables and a house band that played until two.

The white oak in the courtyard was the reason they picked the parcel. A forestry survey in 1998 put it at roughly 240 years old, which makes it older than the county. Every expansion since — the tower in 1989, the theater in 2004, the spring-fed pool in 2019 — has been drawn around its root zone. An arborist from Asheville checks on it twice a year and we take her advice seriously.

Today the resort employs 610 people, most of whom live within twenty miles. The Vance family still owns it. Their granddaughter Marguerite runs it.
